All things related to ICT and at every conference, regardless its focus, the topic of smart city comes up every time! Check out MWC right now, and you can see that vendors large and small are focusing on smart cities. This has been happening for years.

But, if we look around us, not much has been done to make the city smart and not much has been done to improve citizens' lives. If we define first, what a smart city is, it will be a good strategy and start. Unfortunately, all of the smart city councils and organizations are simply promoting ideas, talking more than working, though innovative high tech is geared toward smart cities. Still, the IoT is made for smart cities, and 5G will serve smart city connectivity.

Why is there a mix of connected cities with smart cities? What about waste management? What constitutes perfect security? Where is the green space and walking areas? Are government services available at affordable prices? Where is mHealth and education? A long list!

It looks like a race of talks amongst governments at lightning speed, but the execution is a slow pedestrian!
