Qualcomm’s acquisition of NXP set for EU approval
Qualcomm's acquisition of NXP Semiconductors is set to receive European Union approval, according to Bloomberg sources, after the company said it would maintain licensing terms for NXP's Mifare technology, used in swipe cards for the London tube system. Qualcomm also said it would commit to ensure NXP chips remain interoperable.
Broadcom proposes to acquire Qualcomm for $130 billion
US semiconductor firm Broadcom has proposed to acquire all of the outstanding shares of Qualcomm for per share consideration of $70 in cash - a transaction valued at $130 billion. The proposal was made on Nov. 6, and represents a 28 percent premium over the closing price of Qualcomm common stock on Nov. 2, the last unaffected trading day prior to media speculation of a potential transaction.
Vodafone and Huawei achieve 5G data connection in Italy
Vodafone has achieved the first 5G data connection in Italy. The 5G trials were conducted by Vodafone in partnership with Huawei, which made available a radio base station using Massive MIMO technology.
Ericsson Mobility Report: 17m 5G subscriptions in MENA by 2023
According to the latest regional appendix to the upcoming Ericsson Mobility Report, the first 5G subscriptions in the Middle East and North Africa region are expected during the period 2020 to 2022, reaching around 17 million subscriptions by 2023.
