After enduring a prolonged slump, the smartphone sector is now experiencing a resurgence, with Samsung reclaiming its position as the leading smartphone seller. In the first quarter of this year, worldwide smartphone shipments grew by nearly 8%, reaching a total of 289.4 million units.
Samsung's stellar performance saw the company surpassing Apple, securing almost 21% of the market with 60.1 million smartphones shipped during the first quarter of 2024. In comparison, Apple shipped 50.1 million iPhones, capturing just over 17% of the market during the same period.
A quarter-over-quarter analysis reveals a decline in Apple smartphone shipments by 9.6%, whereas Samsung's shipments experienced a marginal decrease of less than one percent, as reported by market trackers.
Meanwhile, China's Xiaomi witnessed a remarkable 33% growth in shipments, totaling 40.8 million units, securing the third position in the overall smartphone market. Similarly, Transsion's shipments surged by approximately 85% to reach 28.5 million units, placing it in the fourth position. This robust performance from Xiaomi and Transsion underscores the evolving dynamics of the global smartphone market and the emergence of new contenders challenging established players like Samsung and Apple.
