To reduce compliance burdens for cloud service providers (CSPs) while maintaining robust security standards, a leading industry group—The Software Alliance, also known as BSA, which represents tech giants including Microsoft and IBM—has called on G7 nations to harmonize cloud security certification across the world's richest nations.

In doing so, the BSA seeks to promote collaboration and address demands for data to remain confined within national borders.

The development is significant as the rampant adoption of cloud services has raised questions regarding the security of cross-border data exchanges, while also creating an environment conducive to cyberattacks and data theft, creating legal problems.

Some countries prefer to keep their data within their borders for safety reasons. Conversely, the BSA argues that cybersecurity agencies across friendly nations should find ways to cooperate.

The BSA opined that closer cooperation and harmonization could offer cloud companies easier market access and provide customers with a wider array of secure cloud options.
