Infinet Wireless, the global leader in fixed wireless broadband connectivity, is present at the Mobile World Congress 2021 (MWC), the world’s flagship mobile industry and technology event, showcasing its key solutions for the modern hyper-connected and dynamic world.
At the event, Telecom Review caught up with Andrey Koynov, CTO at Infinet Wireless. A Ural State Technical University (USTU) graduate from the Radio Engineering faculty, Andrey has been with Infinet Wireless since 2003. He started his career as an engineer and programmer, and is now the Chief Technical Officer and a member of the Board of Directors at the company.
How did Infinet Wireless continue to deliver industry leading and high-capacity wireless network infrastructure solutions during the pandemic?
Last February and March, we started to realize that some impact from the pandemic would be inevitable. We started preparation for the potential lockdowns, and the circumstances when our teams would work from their homes. Fortunately, we already had many processes in place, which facilitated remote collaboration between our teams located in different parts of the world. However, we understood that we needed to move faster. So, by the time lockdown came, we were ready, having all our teams communicating remotely. For us, it was quite a smooth transition.
What are the next steps that the company will implement to support and foster digital transformation among carriers and mobile operators, wireless Internet service providers, enterprise and corporate networks?
5G is the main driver for most if not all the changes happening within the telecommunication industry these days. We have designed the new generations of our units to be fully in line with the growing demands which include more efficient solutions for our traditional frequency bands, such as 5 and 6 GHz, both point-to-point and point-to-multipoint plugs, as well as introducing the range of the millimeter wave (mmWave) solutions. So now, we are very focused on this new portfolio including solutions for 70 GHz and 28 GHz frequency bands. That's the next big thing for us, helping our customers to upgrade their networks and win new business in the 5G era.
Could you share more details about your recent projects and developments?
The year of 2020 was quite remarkable for us. As mentioned previously, we've achieved great success with a number of new products, including Quanta 5 and Quanta 70, which helped our customers, mainly operators and enterprise customers, winning new business, implementing new projects, and upgrading their networks to be fully ready for the 5G era. So, thanks to our partners a number of new high profile projects have been implemented including networks for banks, as well as for traffic control systems in cities and along the highways, connecting schools and hospitals, etc. In a nutshell, 2020, despite being a pandemic year, has been quite successful for us in terms of helping our customers to expand their networks and their business throughout the world.
What is your commitment in line with MWC 2021’s key theme, ‘Connected Impact’?
We have traditionally worked helping our customers and partners all over the world to bridge the digital divide, connect schools and hospitals, etc. And this work has built up significantly throughout the last year. So, for instance, in certain parts of the world including the Middle East, Central America and Russia, many hospitals received better connectivity to improve the efficiency in treating COVID-19. The same applies to schoolchildren learning from school or at home, as we and our partners helped their teachers to improve connectivity and we keep supporting all those processes throughout the pandemic. So, that is how we see our commitment to the concept of ‘Connected Impact.’
