The Arab Information and Communication Technologies Organization (AICTO) has recently announced the opening of its center of excellence "China-Arab BDS/GNSS Center-AICTO" established in El Ghazala Technological Park, Tunis within the scope of the bilateral relationship between the League of Arab States and the People's Republic of China and the cooperation agreement signed by H.E. Eng. Mohamed Ben Amor, Secretary General of AICTO and H.E. Mr. Chengai Ran , CEO of the China Satellite Navigation Office (CSNO) in Cairo, Egypt on the 20th of January 2016.
The Inauguration Ceremony of the "China-Arab BDS/GNSS Center-AICTO" was attended by high level representatives of the League of Arab States, Arab States ICT ministries, Tunisian Government, Arab regional organizations, diplomatic delegations in addition to a large Chinese delegation comprising of 20 officials, experts and academics led by the CSNO’s CEO. Many heads of ICT companies and technological institutions working in the technological and satellite navigation fields took part in this important event.
The "China-Arab BDS/GNSS Center-AICTO" project aims to provide an open platform for Arab users to acquire deeper understanding of BeiDou/GNSS technology through a set of activities such as: training, exhibition, testing and assessment, etc., and will strength the Arab-Chinese cooperation in the field of satellite navigation and relevant services and applications.
The first activity to be held in this Center was a training workshop titled "GNSS and BeiDou System Deep Understanding" and held from 11th to 13th of April 2018. Through this project, the Arab ICT Organization is participating in the Arab efforts aiming to build and empower the Arab capacities with the required skills and techniques enabling them to master the satellite navigation systems.
