The ICT Fund of the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA), in the presence of the Chairman of the Board and the Director General of the Authority, has honoured today its strategic partners from government and private sector partners during its participation in GITEX Technology Week 2018.

At the TRA pavilion, in recognition of the partners' role in achieving the UAE's strategic objectives for innovation, digital transformation, research and development, future exploration, enhanced integration, and reaching the top international position.

The honouring ceremony begun with the opening speech of H.E. Majid Sultan Al-Mesmar, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Fund and Deputy General Manager of the TRA, in which he expressed his appreciation to all partners and entities that supported the TRA in enhancing the UAE's ICT sector towards boosting the UAE's international presence. He emphasized the importance of partnership and integration to achieve the vision and objectives of the UAE in global leadership, happiness and welfare of the UAE society.

H.E. Al-Mesmar said during the ceremony, "In the ICT Fund we recognize the importance of teamwork and team spirit, in line with the guidance of our wise leadership. Our work together during the previous period is an embodiment of this spirit that we hope will continue until the achievement of our national goals of the UAE 2021 vision, and beyond."

"The Fund will work to strengthen and develop partnerships to serve the renewed development goals set by our leadership to reach the highest global levels. As we have previously relied on our fruitful partnerships, we are keen to continue them as they are now more imperative than ever before," H.E. added .

During the ceremony, the Fund honoured the Prime Minister's Office for holding the World Government Summit, which is a global platform for future foresight and instilling the concepts of artificial intelligence and smart city, and the digital transformation in all aspects of government work. The Prime Minister's Office was also honoured for the UAE Drones for Good Award launched by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, at the Government Summit to Develop innovation in the use of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles for civil purposes.

The Fund also honoured the Ministry of Education for its efforts in the Mohammed Bin Rashid Smart Learning Program, which aims to create a new learning environment that includes smart classrooms in all schools, the distribution of tablets to all students, specialized training programs for teachers, and new scientific curricula to supplement the original curriculum.

The honouring also included the Ministry of Economy for funding 200 patents, the Emirates Space Agency, which provided a number of scholarships in the field of satellite communications, the Higher Colleges of Technology, which established the project "Innovation for the Development of iOS Applications", the Mohammed Bin Rashid Space Centre for launching the Emirates Mars Mission.

The Board of Directors of the Rochester Institute of Technology was honoured for funding the Digital Transformation Laboratory that supports education, training, research and laboratories to build human capital and expertise to support the digital transformation.

Also honoured was the American University in Ras Al Khaimah for establishing an information and innovation centre aimed at developing the University's infrastructure and advancing the outputs of the Faculty of Engineering, and for offering a number of scholarships within Be'tha scholarship program of the ICT Fund. The UAE University was honoured for establishing the National Centre for Space Technology and Science as an incubator for space R&D; the first of its kind in the Middle East.

The Fund also honoured Khalifa University for its multiple scientific projects and scholarships for Be'tha program, as well as the University of Dubai and the Smart City of Dubai for their scholarships within the program.

The first of its kind in the Arab world and Middle East, the TRA launched the ICT Fund in 2007 to achieve rapid, progressive and concrete developments in the sector within the UAE. The Fund achieved significant success in the fields of intellectual capital, technological leadership, smart research, innovative ideas, and incubating start-ups.

In this edition of GITEX, 2 1 federal entities, under the umbrella of the UAE mGovernment, are showcasing their achievements in using technology to facilitate provision of government services and achieve customer happiness, upholding the principle of ‘one government and good services'.

The TRA's stand at the exhibition is demonstrating its future projects and its role in building smart solutions for government entities to ensure the highest levels of service and customer happiness.
