The Communications and Information Technology Commission (CITC) in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia announced the results of the MVNO services tender whereby two companies won including Integrated Telecom Company (ITC).
Both companies were given a 90-day period starting from the day they were notified to complete the regulatory requirements. In case they fail to meet the requirements on time, a third company will win the tender, noting that it will undergo the same regulatory measures.
The MVNO license allows the virtual operator to provide voice services, mobile data and internet services in addition to SMS, voice mail, etc. without having to buy any tower or frequency, CITC explained. Moreover, the new MVNO licenses will positively improve users’ experience and the quality of service and will provide more options to users, which will lead to the development of the sector, promote investment, stimulate competition between service providers, boost innovation and create new job opportunities.
In 2014, CITC had awarded Virgin Mobile KSA and Etihad Jawraa MVNO licenses. The completion of requirements by the two firms to obtain the licenses within 90 days will bring the total number of awarded MVNO licenses in the Kingdom to four licenses.
