The council of Arab ministers for communications and information announced that Muscat will be the Arab digital capital for 2022, an opportunity to exhibit and embrace more successful digital transformation initiatives that respond to the goals of Oman Vision 2040.
The capital of Oman is titled as the Arab digital capital for next year, thanks to Oman’s key position in the global trade, its ability to become an international data exchange center, and having strong digital capabilities and infrastructure.
Eng. Saeed bin Hamoud al Maawali, Oman’s minister of transport, communications, and information technology said that the country’s candidacy file was presented under the logo ‘Digital Future That Generates Opportunities,’ focusing on cybersecurity, digital innovation, and digital capabilities development.
“The Governorate of Muscat is leading the country’s digital transformation process and adopts advanced technologies that enhance economic and social growth, empower all other sectors, and attract local, regional, and international investments, in addition to enabling digital integration among Arab countries,” said Maawali.
The Arab digital capital initiative was launched to create a stimulating environment for investment in the ICT sector and highlight the digital efforts exerted by Arab countries.
In 2021, Egypt was chosen as the Arab digital capital with three pillars as part of its vision: digital transformation, capacity and digital skills building, and driving innovation.
