As a wrap-up to the 17th edition of Telecom Review Leaders’ Summit, Telecom Review Group organized its Excellence Awards ceremony to recognize exceptional global and regional companies, along with industry leaders, for their innovative initiatives and influential contributions throughout 2023.
Telecom Review Group, together with an independent panel of judges, continued its dedication and commitment to the ICT industry in ranking the best of the best in terms of corporate growth, technological deployment, ICT investment, corporate social responsibility (CSR), digital customer experience, green initiatives as well as individual capabilities and brand contributions.

Among the list of Telecom Review Regional Excellence Awards 2023, this year’s “Best 5G Infrastructure Deployment – Middle East” award goes to stc Bahrain.
Chief of Technology and Digital Officer Eng. Ahmed Alsharif received the award during the awards gala dinner. stc Bahrain sets a new benchmark in its country’s telecommunications history by becoming the first operator to provide nationwide commercial 5G services in 2019. Within two years, the company achieved yet another milestone by becoming the first operator to offer 100% nationwide 5G coverage.
Commenting on this milestone, Eng. Alsharif said, “stc Bahrain considers best user experience as part of the organization’s DNA and we believe technological leadership and best experience is key to our success in this competitive market.”
Last year, stc Bahrain was also first in the Middle East region to unveil its roadmap for 5G network transformation to 5G Advanced, a new standard introduced by 3GPP. “As part of this initiative we launched a major network revamp project in the history of stc Bahrain where all network infrastructure including radio, transmission and core went through major revamp/upgrades to make it a state of the art network, capable to deal with future business needs and challenges yet to come,” added the CTDO.
Alongside network capability, stc Bahrain also gave equal importance to user migration from legacy technologies to 4G and 5G, and gave equal importance to organizations’ digital transformation program to ensure best customer experience journey. “Under this program we started the CBS and CRM transformation initiative and placed special focus on accelerating network automation and bringing use of AI to our network operations which is essential to ensure seamless customer experience,” explained Eng. Alsharif.
The 17th edition of the Telecom Review Leaders’ Summit, under the theme “Global, Regional, Digital,” is one of the most anticipated and largest ICT events in the industry. Comprising of thousands of distinguished guests, the two-day gathering on December 6-7, 2023 welcomed C-level executives within the ICT industry and a broad range of professionals including telecom operators, telecom vendors/suppliers, industry regulators, government officials, content providers, cybersecurity experts, consultants and smart city innovators.
