Telecommunications company, Nexcom, launched an innovative solution for 5G FWA, namely, the arm-based uCPE–DTA 1376, featuring 1GbE copper ports for Ethernet connectivity and support for 5G FR1 and Wi-Fi connectivity.  

Earlier this year, technology innovation leader, Nokia, launched a 5G mmWave receiver, increasing capacity in FWA networks and aiming to provide an innovative solution for rural broadband coverage.

In 2023, Qualcomm Technologies launched its 5G Fixed Wireless Access Platform Gen 3, dubbed as the world’s first fully-integrated 5G-Advanced-ready platform for FWA. The platform contains features that accelerate performance including support for Sub-6 GHz, mmWave, and Wi-Fi 7 connectivity, bolstering speed and flexibility.

The amalgamation of Qualcomm’s 5G FWA Gen 3 emphasizes the country’s commitment to bridging the digital divide, providing solutions to further connect the unconnected.

A recent mobility report by Swedish telecommunications company, Ericsson, highlighted the growing interest in FWA connections in the Middle East and Africa (MENA) region as service providers race to leverage and monetize 5G’s abilities.

As proof of the MENA region’s success, Telecommunications services provider, Omantel, emerged as a global leader in the 5G FWA rollout, with 5G accounting for 92% of the overall FWA connections in Oman, three years after its takeoff.

UAE telecommunications operator, du, highlighted the company’s growth in the broadband landscape by enhancing its 5G FWA, administering competitive prices and targeting SMEs. The UAE based operator is poised to launch 5G FWA packages for lower latency and high speed connections, targeting the gaming community.

Furthermore, FWA leased line services have been rolled out commercially in Kuwait, according to Chinese technology conglomerate, Huawei, enhancing upstream capabilities. Its commercial adoption of 5G Ethernet will soon materialize, providing easier deployment, operation, and maintenance.

Huawei’s 5G FWA+TV service presents opportunities that 4G could not address, offering innovative solutions for operators, including reducing data traffic. This service allows operators to harness the power of 5G by integrating quad play, which combines broadband, mobile, landline phone, and television services into a seamless experience. This integration is set to deliver a next-level user experience, significantly enhancing the way consumers interact with digital services.

According to Ericsson’s 2024 mobility report, North America leads the way in Fixed Wireless Access (FWA) adoption, with a 100% penetration rate. Meanwhile, Western Europe has seen significant growth in speed-based FWA offerings, with adoption rates increasing from 30% to 50%, reflecting a strong demand for faster and more reliable broadband solutions.
