New frequencies have been introduced by Kuwait’s Communications and Information Technology Regulatory Authority (CITRA) in preparation for the rollout of the 5G-Advanced (5G-A) network.

The integration of 5G-A in the country is set to strengthen Kuwait’s leadership in the region as it begins to adopt modern technological advancements.

To accelerate the expansion of 4G and 5G services, Kuwait will shut down 3G services by June 2025, redirecting mobile network capacity to 5G users.

According to CITRA’s Acting Chairman, Abdullah Khaled Al-Ajmi, Kuwait’s network technology upgrade will support the integration of innovations such as the Internet of Things (IoT), artificial intelligence (AI), virtual and augmented reality (VR/AR), three-dimensional videos, and cloud services.

These advancements will accelerate the country’s digital transformation, enabling the development of smart cities and ultra-high-speed data transfers in future projects, reaching 10 Gbps.

This strategic move is poised to meet the technological demands of Kuwait’s various sectors, providing high-quality services to individuals and enterprises.

Kuwait’s decision builds upon the Communications Regulatory Authority’s (CRA) recent announcement indicating that Qatar shall phase out 3G services by December 2025, marking a significant shift in the country's telecommunications landscape.

These decisions reflect a broader trend across the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) region, where nations are increasingly transitioning away from older technologies to focus on enhancing 4G and 5G networks.
