Oman’s Ministry of Commerce, Industry, and Investment Promotion (MoCIIP) has initiated a project to advance the country’s adoption of the latest technological advancements and implement Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR) techniques in a strategic move to accelerate industrial modernization.
The ‘Smart Production Factories’ initiative was launched by the MoCIIP in collaboration with the Gulf Organization for Industrial Consulting (GOIC) to integrate advanced technologies and 4IR innovations into Omani factories.

The Transition to Smart Production Factories
Based on the criteria obtained from the Smart Industry Readiness Index (SIRI), the participating factories will undergo a comprehensive evaluation as part of the first phase of the process.
According to a MoCIIP official, the evaluation will focus on three core pillars inclusive of 16 dimensions that will assess the readiness of each factory for adopting 4IR technology.
Furthermore, five out of 20 selected factories will undergo digital transformation throughout the year after adopting 4IR applications.
By 2026, the initiative will transform 30% of factories into smart facilities in Oman.

Challenges in Digital Transformation
According to the ministry, five critical challenges hinder the growth of Oman’s industrial sector. These challenges include the low adoption of advanced technologies, absence of clear standards for foundational transformation, limited availability of development solutions for factories, shortage of specialists to assess factory status, and an unskilled workforce in modern technologies.
The MoCIIP outlined planned actions to address these challenges, including evaluating new and existing facilities.
To improve operational processes and overall efficiency, the MoCIIP encourages all factories interested in facilitating digital transformation to participate in the initiative.
The project, in line with Oman’s Industrial Strategy 2040, is poised to enhance the competitiveness of the industrial sector, modernizing the country’s technological landscape by transitioning to smart production facilities.
This reflects Oman’s commitment to accelerating digital transformation across the country by adopting cutting-edge technologies.
