The product of USD 400M and more than a decade of R&D is Tarana’s next-generation fixed wireless access (ngFWA) technology, designed specifically for fixed broadband. Overcoming long-fought industry challenges, ngFWA delivers reliable, high-speed internet at long-range, despite physical obstructions and significant radio interference.

Since its commercial launch in late 2021, Tarana’s broadband solution has been adopted by more than 250 operators in 24 countries. Service providers all over the world are leveraging ngFWA to bring better broadband to their communities sooner than previously thought possible.

While fiber is considered the gold standard of broadband delivery, millions of people worldwide still lack access to fiber-powered internet. The reality? It’s often too expensive and time-consuming to deploy, especially in sparsely populated areas or terrains that make trenching difficult. In a world where society relies on robust broadband for telehealth, remote work, online education, social connection, and more, there is no time to waste. ngFWA is the reliable, timely solution operators need to reach the underserved in their areas quickly, as well as scale their coverage and footprints in remote locations.

While traditional fixed wireless access (FWA) is generally known for its poor reliability amid heavy radio traffic, foliage or forestation, inclement weather, and high subscriber volumes, ngFWA is not plagued by those factors. Operating in the 3, 5 and 6 GHz spectrum bands, Tarana’s broadband platform:

  • Can deliver up to 1.6 Gbps of aggregated capacity per link (depending on the spectrum/model)
  • Maintains solid performance at ranges of up to 30 km
  • Utilizes advanced multipath technology to connect in near- and non-line-of-sight (nLoS/NLoS)
  • Comes equipped with unprecedented interference cancellation capabilities
  • Ensures quality service for all end-users (up to 250 clients per sector)

The recent advancements of ngFWA were demonstrated when compared directly with a major provider of traditional FWA solutions. Unlike other wireless solutions that utilize repurposed technologies, ngFWA was purpose-built to deliver end-game broadband. As the case study demonstrates, Tarana's performance stands out due to its ability to deliver unmatched throughput across various link distances, even in environments with heavy interference.

The 250+ customers already deploying ngFWA encompass a variety of WISPs, cable companies, MNOs, and more—demonstrating the technology’s versatility. ngFWA can be leveraged to optimize existing networks or expand into new territories where there is a need for affordable, reliable, high-speed broadband.

ngFWA was recently launched in the United Kingdom, and many EU countries are set to follow suit by the end of 2024, marking a steady expansion in global availability. The RNv—an upcoming version of Tarana’s “remote node” (the small radio mounted on a subscriber’s home)—will make ngFWA “more affordable than ever” and further expand adoption.
