Under the patronage of H.E. Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani, Qatar's Space Radio Monitoring Center (SRMC) was inaugurated by H.E. Minister of Communications and Information Technology Mohammed bin Ali bin Mohammed Al Mannai, marking a pivotal move for Qatar as it prepares to enhance its capacity in managing and regulating space radio frequencies.

Space radio, crucial for communication between ground stations and satellites, involves both downlinks (from space to Earth) and uplinks (from Earth to space).

The launch of the SRMC by the Communications Regulatory Authority (CRA) underscores Qatar's commitment to fortifying its satellite communications infrastructure and ensuring interference-free spectrum management.

Qatar’s Global Space Communications

The SRMC, featuring the world's first integration of a mobile Very Small Aperture Terminal (VSAT) geolocation tool by a regulatory body, enables the real-time tracking of mobile VSAT terminals. This innovative system serves as a modern regulatory instrument to enforce compliance and mitigate interference in satellite operations.

With monitoring capabilities spanning terrestrial and space transmissions, the SRMC significantly enhances Qatar's global disposition in space communications.

CRA President Eng. Ahmad Abdulla Al Muslemani, said, "The launch of the SRMC marks a significant milestone in Qatar's commitment to advancing space radio spectrum management. As one of only 16 centers globally and the second in the region, the SRMC is equipped with cutting-edge technology designed to monitor and regulate satellite communications. This enhancement greatly strengthens Qatar’s ability to manage its space radio spectrum effectively. The SRMC's role is pivotal across various sectors, including telecommunications and satellite-based services, ensuring seamless and secure communications."

"This development not only reflects our dedication to maintaining robust satellite communication networks but also supports innovation and economic growth. It is a key step in aligning with CRA Strategy, Qatar National Vision 2030 and the Third National Development Strategy 2024-2030, reinforcing our commitment to technological advancement and strategic progress," he added.
