Telecom Review was invited to attend the Huawei Middle East and Central Asia high-level media roundtable on day two of the GSMA M360 Eurasia 2023 conference in Baku, Azerbaijan. The open and transparent discussion that gathered cybersecurity thought leaders across the Middle East and Central Asia, aimed at aligning strategic priorities for the region, deepening engagement and steering collaborative efforts in the industry to advance collective action for cyber stability in the telecom industry.

The Telecommunications and Digital Government Regulatory Authority (TDRA) held its Annual Partners Gathering in Abu Dhabi, where it hosted and honored its strategic partners in the public and private sectors. The gathering featured various activities, including a presentation of the pillars of "We the UAE 2031" Vision, highlighting areas related to the role and mission of TDRA in regulating the telecommunications sector and enabling digital transformation.

A recent enhancement to Emirates’ inflight connectivity means that all Emirates passengers in every class of travel can enjoy some form of free connectivity once they sign up for Emirates Skywards. The development has resulted in an additional 30,000 Economy Class passengers connecting to complimentary onboard Wi-Fi every week.

The Telecommunications and Digital Government Regulatory Authority (TDRA) celebrated World Telecommunication and Information Society Day at its office in Dubai, with the participation of UAE telecom service providers, TDRA’s government partners and other local and regional partners.

During a session entitled “Connectivity: What the Underserved Want, What the Underserved Get” at the SATEXPO Summit Stage at CABSAT 2023, experts convened to discuss the digital divide, barriers to serving people, satellite and mobile innovation, community Wi-Fi and spectrum usage, among other points.

In 2022, 720 million people remained offline in the least developed countries (LDCs), with an estimated 407 million using the Internet. Considering LDCs as the world’s greatest untapped resource with needs that must be addressed to fulfill the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by 2030, the World Telecommunication and Information Society Day (WTISD) 2023 focuses on “empowering the least developed countries through information and communication technologies.”
