Saudi Telecom Company (STC) has been tipped by a prominent and influential Saudi minister to play a key role in helping the country transform into a digital base economy.

The comments were made by HE minister of CIT Abdullah Alswaha during a visit to STC’s stand at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona.

Abdullah Alswaha visited STC’s interactive booth which demonstrated the operators’ latest cutting-edge innovations and solutions - and he expressed his belief that STC will be one of the most important partners in building a digital base economy in the KSA.

He referenced the major agreements STC had signed with ICT technology leaders such as Ericsson, Nokia, Huawei and Korea Telecom as further evidence of the importance the operator is going to play in meeting the ambitious objectives outlined in Mohammed Bin Salman’s Saudi Vision 2030 project.

In addition to this, it was also confirmed by the Global System Mobile Association (GSMA) that STC was now an official member of its dynamic NB-IoT working group.

In a GSMA Barcelona meeting, STC was welcomed as an official member in this Global forum and standardization body. NB-IoT forum leads the industry and ecosystem to build end-end solutions based on NB-IOT. As part of its objectives, NB-IoT forum works towards facilitating the commercial launches of services based on NB-IoT and drives the introduction of related applications.

As part of its continued activities, this forum will ensure interoperability of the future solutions across many industry verticals. This announcement places STC at the forefront of technology, and recognizes its pioneering technological leading role across the globe.
