A high level governmental source has disclaimed the news about Vodafone being awarded the third mobile license in Oman by the Sultanate’s government.
The source confirmed that Vodafone reached an agreement with a local company owned by a national trust fund to act as the strategic partner in the process of finalizing the offer to be submitted to the telecommunications regulatory authority with the aim of receiving the third mobile license, in accordance with the government’s decision issued in October 2017 which stipulates that a third mobile operator should be the fruit of an alliance between a local company owned by a trust fund and a strategic partner, noting that operators’ licenses are officially issued in accordance with a Royal decree.
Official parties had declared earlier that a third operator is expected to initiate commercial operations in the second quarter of 2020 if everything went according to plan.
