Emirates Investment Authority, Etisalat’s majority shareholder, has appointed Obaid Humaid Al Tayer as the new Chairman of Etisalat.
Mr. Eissa Mohamed Ghanem Al Suwaidi submitted his resignation from the Board of Directors as a chairman and as a board member due to personal reasons, the company said in a declaration to the Abu Dhabi Securities Exchange.
Obaid Humaid Al Tayer is a Cabinet Member and Minister of State for Financial Affairs. He joined the Federal Government in February 2008.
The new chairman also served as a member of the board of directors at Etisalat from 1981 to 1991, and was previously the chairman of Dubai Chamber of Commerce & Industry. He was also a member of Dubai Economic Council, Dubai Municipal Council and the Federal National Council.
Al Tayer graduated from University of Colorado, USA, with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering.
