Digital DEWA, the digital arm of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), and du, from Emirates Integrated Telecommunications Company (EITC), made a strategic partnership to implement the region’s first industrial and private 5G slicing through a 5G standalone (SA) technology.
Through this collaboration, Digital DEWA’s InfraX, the subsidiary responsible for ICT services, will be the first in the region to offer private 5G slicing driven via edge computing to the utility industry. du’s 5G SA solution will enable DEWA to enhance efficiency, improve the way of handling its business, and enable InfraX to provide seamless and innovative services to DEWA and its subsidiaries.

Under this initiative, du will also build DEWA’s new mobile core edge infrastructure through a network function virtualization (NFV) infrastructure solution. Both parties have agreed to build new use cases in order to utilize mobile edge computing capability, improving operations, securing networks, and accelerating the digital transformation.

The region's first industrial 5G slicing through 5G SA technology will meet and exceed the emerging requirements of several sectors, including utilities, industrial, healthcare, and transportation.
