The Communications and Information Technology Commission (CITC) has launched the second phase of the broadband opening project, which is dedicated to the business sector. This is following the success of the first phase in enabling individuals to choose the most appropriate fiber-optic service provider, regardless of the infrastructure owner.

In the presence of CITC’s governor H.E. Dr. Muhammad bin Saud Al-Tamimi, the commercial agreements were signed by telecom service providers namely stc, Mobily, Zain KSA, Salam, Dawiyat Integrated Telecommunications & Information Technology Co., and Etihad Atheeb Telecommunication Co. (GO).

The authority revealed that the percentage of requests to open broadband in its first phase, which targeted the retail sector, has risen to more than 76% of the total subscriptions to new requests for fiber-optic service since its launch last year. This reflects an improvement to the competitiveness of optical fiber services by nearly 23%.

Through the second phase of the project to open broadband among service providers, the authority seeks to diversify the options for users from the business sector and raise the quality of services provided to the sector. This contributes to supporting development and innovation in the business sector, as well as achieving optimal use of infrastructure, and increasing the level of competitiveness among service providers.
