UAE-based telecom operator, e& international, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with global technology leaders, including Huawei, Ericsson, Nokia, and Intel, to establish autonomous mobile networks, revolutionizing the telecommunications landscape using artificial intelligence (AI).
The strategic collaboration stems from the leaders’ shared ambition to transform e&’s mobile network infrastructure, redefining the industry with an autonomous network strategy that aligns with the group’s digital transformation objectives.
By 2030, e& aims to achieve Level 4 autonomy in its mobile networks, a breakthrough in the company’s digital transformation journey. TM Forum, an alliance of more than 800 global companies, supports e&’s initiative.
Sabri Ali Yehya, e& international’s Chief Technology Officer, underscored, “This multilateral partnership is a game changer for e& international and a bold move that will lead the industry into a new era with networks that think, adapt, and evolve in real time.”
The e& CTO emphasized that leveraging the transformative power of AI to achieve e&’s goal of Level 4 autonomy is important. As they set new industry standards in terms of connection, communication, and creation, customers will gain frictionless and intuitive experiences through AI.

Revolutionizing the Telecom Landscape
Leveraging the capabilities of AI and advanced technologies in management, optimization, and repairment with minimal human intervention, an autonomous network can automatically adjust the settings for optimal performance. The AI-powered network can detect and fix issues to minimize disruptions, adapt to new devices or updates, and predict maintenance needs.
e&’s goal to reach Level 4 autonomy will enable its networks to run by themselves and handle most operational tasks automatically, delivering more efficient, reliable, and responsive services.
e& international, alongside other tech giants engaging in the initiative, are poised to establish the benchmark for this level of autonomy by evaluating capabilities, identifying challenges, and planning the required steps to improve network autonomy.
Commenting on the collaboration, George Glass, TM Forum’s Chief Technology Officer, stated, “This is not just a technological milestone; it represents a fundamental shift towards AI-first operations that empowers telcos to unlock efficiency and growth. e&’s bold vision for achieving AN Level 4 by 2030 with Huawei, Ericsson, Nokia, and Intel is a perfect example of what can be achieved through industry collaboration.
“TM Forum is committed to supporting the global telco industry on this journey by providing the frameworks, tools, and guidance needed to build an end-to-end, AI-first operational model that will unlock new growth opportunities.”
Furthermore, these tech companies are set to test real-world AI use cases to augment customer experiences, boost efficiency, and support sustainability.
A white paper expanding on leveraging AI in accelerating the 5G rollout in key markets and exploring AI-driven solutions in reducing carbon emissions to support sustainability goals is set to be released.
