Nokia has been selected as key supplier by National Broadband Ireland (NBI) to deploy the FTTH network for the landmark National Broadband Plan (NBP).
Nokia will provide all active network equipment and integration services, including an FTTH network based on next-generation PON technology, an aggregation network based on its IP routing and optical networking technology, and a full-performance management platform.
The Finnish telecoms equipment provider will deliver design, testing, integration, I&C and project management services for the project.
NBI will be a wholesale-only operation, providing connectivity to all retail operators across the country, at first through a series of 300 broadband connection points (BCPs), and then by delivering fiber to up half a million homes across rural Ireland.
