In an exclusive interview with Telecom Review during MWC Barcelona 2025, Rahul Sandil, Vice President and General Manager - Global Marketing and Communications, MediaTek, reiterated the company’s long-term vision to become the trusted partner of the global technology ecosystem and outlined how he aims to unify MediaTek’s brand strategy and strengthen its global visibility through strategic collaborations in 2025.

Since you recently joined MediaTek, what excites you the most about this new role, and what are your key priorities for the company's brand strategy?

First of all, thank you, Telecom Review, and all your readers and community, for the opportunity to speak with you. This is an exciting time for MediaTek. I am excited to join the company as it expands beyond mobile. We’re already the world’s largest provider of chipsets for Android smartphones and a longtime leader in the smart TV market. Now, we’re looking ahead to even broader horizons.

I am excited to work with an incredibly talented global team as we explore how our brand impacts people’s lives. MediaTek has been enriching lives for over two and a half decades, and the future looks even brighter, especially in artificial intelligence (AI). At MWC, we’re highlighting innovations such as AI-driven devices, non-terrestrial networks (NTNs), and cutting-edge solutions in automotive. In the future, we will also be working on integrating AI into PCs.

MediaTek powers a vast range of devices and verticals, from smartphones to smart homes and automotive solutions. How do you plan to solidify messaging across all of these diverse verticals?

At the core of our messaging is our vision to enhance and enrich life for everyone; that’s our brand ethos. We power the brands people love and bring transformational technologies to as many users as possible.

Our commitment to democratizing technology has always been central to our mission, whether that technology be smartphones, AI, or the evolving edge-to-cloud landscape. We aim to be at the forefront of these massive transformations, working alongside other players to make cutting-edge technology accessible to all.

With the semiconductor market becoming increasingly competitive, how will MediaTek’s latest breakthroughs in AI, 3nm chip manufacturing, and high-speed connectivity drive its success in 2025?

At MWC, we’re showcasing transformative technologies and innovations across multiple sectors, encompassing NTNs and automotive to AI-driven smartphones. We’re also unveiling our first AI data center solution, alongside custom solutions for 224G high-speed connectivity.

This year is going to be one of the most exciting yet. As we move forward, our focus remains on fulfilling our commitment to innovation and bringing transformative technologies to market and expanding our portfolio. From flagship smartphones to Internet of Things (IoT) and smart home solutions, we have several exciting developments in the pipeline. As the year progresses, we will share updates on developments in our edge computing and cloud computing solutions.

With AI being a major differentiator in chipsets, how will MediaTek’s advancements in AI-driven computing and mobile experiences be communicated to both consumers and enterprises?

MediaTek has always been at the forefront of technology, and that remains true for AI. Whether it’s enabling AI on your smartphone, in data centers, or in your car, we are at the center of this transformation.

Communicating this to our audiences is an exciting challenge. MediaTek is already a well-recognized and respected brand in the industry, and we’ll leverage a mix of traditional and digital media, along with collaborations, to reach our audiences. But more importantly, we are focusing on storytelling, which involves showcasing how our AI innovations cater to everyone’s individual needs.

AI-powered smartphones, for example, unlock new levels of productivity, creativity, and personalization. Whether it be helping users excel in education, advance their careers, or simplify daily tasks, we want MediaTek to be the core technology that powers those experiences.

Strategic collaborations with major tech players are strengthening MediaTek’s global footprint. How collaborations enhance MediaTek’s brand visibility in key markets?

At MediaTek, we take great pride in the deep collaborations we build across the industry. Whether these be through co-investment in research and development (R&D) with technology players, close integration with original equipment manufacturers (OEMs), or strategic work with distribution channels, collaborations are embedded in our DNA.

These relationships enable us to bring cutting-edge technologies to market efficiently and at scale. Whether it’s our role in the Android ecosystem with players like Google or our collaboration with NVIDIA, we remain deeply committed to fostering a strong ecosystem. Our focus will always be on powering the brands people love and driving the next wave of technological innovation together.
