For the first time in history, a network energy-saving solution has won the GSMA GLOMO 'Best Mobile Technology Breakthrough' award. Huawei’s ‘0 Bit 0 Watt' solution, powered by the company’s leading native-green network technology, enables operators to build energy-efficient networks that deliver a premium user experience.
This industry-first solution allows the RF equipment to consume less than 10 watts of power during idle hours, and automatically wakes up in seconds when needed to handle user service requests. Deployed on more than 30 networks worldwide, results have shown that it can reduce the average daily energy consumption by 9% to 38%, while improving user experience significantly.
Moreover, Huawei's 5G-A GigaGreen System solution received the ‘Innovative Breakthrough in Mobile Technology Award’ from GTI, acknowledging Huawei's significant contributions to the industry and its pioneering efforts in green solutions. The 5G-A GigaGreen System solution optimizes the energy efficiency of operator networks under all loads, and in all scenarios.
With exceptional performance, simplified deployment processes, and maximum energy efficiency, GigaGreen simplifies the transition for operators from 5G to 5.5G, solidifying its position as a 5.5G flagship product. The GigaGreen System comprises three parts: green base stations, green antennas, and green networks.
Notably, Huawei's green antenna series won the GSMA GLOMO 'Best Mobile Network Infrastructure' award, which recognized Huawei's breakthroughs in boosting efficiency and performance, and its integration of base station antennas. The implementation of Huawei's green antennas globally has facilitated the streamlined construction of 5G networks for operators, enhancing both energy efficiency and connectivity performance.
With more than 250,000 green antennas deployed worldwide—including the Eco Antenna, Hertz Antenna, BladeAAU Antennas, and X2 Antenna—up to 90,000 tons of carbon dioxide emissions can be saved.

At MWC Barcelona 2024, Huawei was honored with the GSMA GLOMO award for its groundbreaking RAN Digital Twin System (RDTS) solution, recognized as the ‘Best Network Software Breakthrough.’ This recognition underscores Huawei's commitment to tailoring software solutions to meet customer needs, paving the way for autonomous wireless networks and spearheading the digital and intelligent transformation of operator networks on a global scale.
Utilizing the three-layer architecture of IntelligentRAN, Huawei Wireless Solution and AUTIN collaboratively developed RDTS. As an industry pioneer, this system creates comprehensive twins for RAN environments and dynamic network mechanism models. Consequently, wireless networks can achieve millisecond-level sensing, precise trend forecasting, and multi-objective decision-making. Thus, RDTS establishes a robust groundwork for the autonomous network (AN) L4 within intelligent wireless solutions.
Based on the RDTS, Huawei launched the industry-leading wireless AN L4 solution based on service-level (iLiveStreaming and WTTx Suite 2.0), network-level (iPowerStar), and site-level (iKeyEvent) digital twins.
In the same context, China Mobile, Huawei, and Neolix won the 2024 GTI Market Development Award for enabling the large-scale commercial use of L4 unmanned vehicles. This symbolizes an industry consensus regarding the use of 5.5G-powered unmanned vehicles to boost the large-scale deployment of 5.5G vehicle-to-everything (V2X).
In 2023, China Mobile Beijing, Huawei, and Neolix collaborated to build 5.5G V2X high-quality demonstration roads within an advanced autonomous driving demonstration area in Beijing. On these roads, L4 unmanned logistics vehicles are deployed on a large scale.
This system facilitates the uploading of extensive AI training data via 5.5G networks. Additionally, Ascend AI computing power is available at the edge nodes of these networks to automatically clean and label data. This process reduces computing power overhead at the vehicle end by 30%. Furthermore, 5.5G network technologies enable flexible spectrum access and deterministic network latency, achieving an uplink transmission rate of 500 Mbps and stable low latency of 20 ms in the WAN. These advancements provide solid support for the development of connected vehicles and propel Neolix and the broader smart connected vehicle industry into a new era of intelligence.
5G Deployment
Dedicated to advancing sustainable, 5G networks in the modern era, Huawei has worked together with leading operators in several use cases.
An inclusive 5G smart grid solution was jointly developed by the State Grid, China Unicom, Huawei, and TD Tech based on the extensive 5G networks built by China Unicom. At MWC Barcelona 2024, this solution was selected for GSMA GLOMO's ‘Best Private Network Solution’ award, showcasing the industry's recognition of 5G smart grids entering the large-scale commercial rollout stage.
Utilizing end-to-end (E2E) deterministic slicing, the system guarantees that electric power services have exclusive access to public network resources. The solution also prioritizes high security with features like RB reservation and FlexE transport slicing, ensuring secure isolation for electric power services. Additionally, it employs Reduced Capability (RedCap) technology to ensure extensive coverage of simplified, secure and cost-effective 5G connections for all power-grid services.
This solution has been widely deployed across the Shandong province, where China Unicom Shandong, State Grid's Shandong branch, and Huawei collaborated to construct the world's largest 5G virtual private network. With over 30,000 5G base stations deployed, the network provides more than 100,000 5G connections, embedding 5G into the entire electric power process, from generation and transmission to distribution and consumption.
Furthermore, Huawei’s SuperHub solution received the GSMA GLOMO ‘Best Mobile Innovation for Emerging Markets’ award for enhancing the spectral efficiency of microwave spectrum. The global trial and commercial deployment of the SuperHub feature in Ufone Pakistan’s network resulted in a 50% spectrum saving and a 100% reduction in interference, significantly advancing the construction of superior mobile backhaul networks. This addresses the increasing need for wireless backhaul networks to support the rapid adoption of 5G technology.
Considering this, the SuperHub solution facilitates the repurposing of microwave spectrum across multiple links, with a separation as narrow as 15 degrees. This optimizes spectrum utilization and notably boosts link capacity.
On top of that, China Unicom Guangdong partnered with Huawei to leverage network data analytics and slicing technology in delivering an exceptional, uninterrupted live HD streaming experience. The jointly-launched 5G live streaming service in Guangdong by China Unicom and Huawei received the GSMA GLOMO ‘Best Mobile Operator Service for Connected Consumers’ award. Ultra-high uplink speeds of 150 Mbps to 200 Mbps and exceptional services for VVIP users are available, setting a benchmark for global operators seeking to monetize 5G uplink bandwidth.
In the Middle East, the FWA2 project by Zain KSA and Huawei was chosen for the 2024 GTI Market Development Award. Built upon the development of new Fixed Wireless Access (FWA) services, this initiative set benchmarks for building state-of-the-art wireless networks. It has also embraced a pioneering global solution that combines wireless and fiber convergence, offering households a gigabit broadband experience through the integration of one wireless CPE, one FTTR, and various applications.
Sustainable Development
Described by the GLOMO judging panel as an "excellent and scalable idea,” Huawei and BJFF were presented with the ‘Outstanding Mobile Contribution to the UN SDGs’ award for their innovative application of self-powered AI and mobile technology aimed at safeguarding Norway's wild Atlantic salmon from extinction.
The solution employs a logic-based approach where fish are guided to navigate through a river-spanning tunnel equipped with an underwater camera and an intelligent algorithm-driven gate. This algorithm is capable of identifying various fish species, distinguishing key characteristics such as the distinct hump of male humpback salmon and the tail patterns of females. Achieving an identification accuracy rate surpassing 99%, the system effectively controls the gate, allowing it to remain closed to divert invasive species into a holding tank while permitting other fish to proceed upstream.
During the salmon spawning season between June and September 2023, pilot projects in Storleva River and Kongsfjord River successfully intercepted over 6,000 humpback salmon, demonstrating the efficacy of the solution.
