T-Mobile’s Czech unit has announced that it aims to launch commercial operations over its new 5G network in Prague and Brno.
The operator stated that over a quarter of the population of both Prague and Brno will be covered by its 5G by the end of the year. They also disclosed that their target is to have around 360 base transceiver stations online as well.
T-Mobile customers who would like to use 5G will need to have an LTE-enabled SIM card and a 5G-enabled device. In addition to this, the operator has said that it will start operating the 5G network in line C of the Prague metro which include stations at Budejovicka, Chodov, Haje, Roztyly, Kacerov, Pankrac and Prague Povstani, with plans to expand coverage to around 35 stations by year’s end.
The operator’s non-standalone 5G network operates on frequencies which are often used for 3G and 4G. This also includes dynamic spectrum sharing between 4G and 5G in the 2100MHz band and 15MHz of bandwidth. In addition to this, 20MHz of 1800MHz spectrum are also used.
When used with 4G LTE, its 5G network plans to achieve download speeds of up to 500Mbps.
