Nokia has added five new third-party applications to its MX Industrial Edge (MXIE) solutions. The new set of applications for tracking and positioning include Nordic ID, HERE HD GNSS service and svarmony’s arvye tool. The worker safety applications include Portalify’s SmartView and Secapp.

These apps are offered as-a-service and come with automatic lifecycle management. They're deployed on Nokia MXIE and take advantage of its features like low latency, powerful computing, high resilience, and security. Additionally, they leverage private wireless connectivity to enhance the capabilities of Nokia's One platform for industrial digitalization.

Real-Time Tracking and Positioning

Industrial enterprises lose valuable production time, output and cost savings due to missing equipment, inefficient asset utilization and poor inventory management. Real-time tracking and positioning and related historical data provide the required asset visibility to help overcome these challenges and improve operational performance.

HERE HD GNSS service provides highly accurate outdoor location tracking for machinery and people in industrial sites by using a Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS)-based positioning solution.

Nordic ID (part of Brady Corporation) offers a complete RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) solution that incorporates devices and software to identify and track the flow of assets down to a single-item’s digital identity. Thus, a highly efficient system is created that is specifically designed to track items in high velocity supply chains and locate high-value assets.

Svarmony’s arvye tool boasts a VPS (Visual Positioning System) that aids navigation on mobile devices, helping workers in complex work environments find their way and complete tasks faster through the additional information provided by visual cues.

Worker Safety Applications

In many industrial environments, worker safety is not only a priority to reduce risks and accidents, but it also lowers the associated downtime and process impact. This new application category for the MXIE helps to address these needs.

Portalify’s SmartView provides operational teams with indoor and outdoor location tracking for workers using smartphones and other tracking and positioning technologies with a focus on lone worker requirements. In an emergency, workers can raise alerts and the worker’s location can be shared with operational teams and coworkers to accelerate response times.

Secapp is a platform that is used for critical communications, alerting, and documentation, designed to improve readiness, safety, and emergency response times. The solution helps alert individuals and teams, collects critical data, provides secure chats and videos, and enhances lone worker safety— all achievable with the device in your pocket.

Stephan Litjens, Vice President of Enterprise Campus Edge Solutions at Nokia, said, “As digital transformation takes hold in many industries, organizations require a rich and mixed set of applications to solve business challenges like tracking and positioning and worker safety. The new additions to the Nokia Industrial Application Catalog provide greater efficiency, productivity and further enhance worker safety with preparedness, situational awareness and fast reactions during incidents. Offered as-a-service and deployed on MXIE, we eliminate the hurdles of adoption and ensure best-of-breed solutions are available.”
